HK December 2014 Trip Review: Toys 'R Us HK

Whew I'm finally done with this article!

Before we begin, I'd really like to apologize for how long it took me to write this relatively short post, but school has been getting more intense in my final year of Secondary School so I've been really busy. I really do seek your understanding that all my future posts would be delayed as well!

Now, on to the good stuff.

As you all should know by now, Toys R Us is a multinational chain of Toy Stores, and pretty much is the largest retailer of toys worldwide. Since this is a LEGO blog, I'll be zooming in on the relevant bricky-bits that we all know and love.

Having been to a number of TRUs both in Singapore and in other countries, one of the things we seem to lack here in Singapore is a lack of LEGO selection. For example, TRUs in the USA have the good fortune of having LEGO polybags available on retail, something that a polybag collector like myself envies. Hong Kong's TRUs don't have Polybags either, but they do have a great selection of UCS and Exclusive lego sets.

This review is all about the TRU HK Flagship store in Harbor City, 'cos thats the only one I visited and was literally right outside our hotel. The nearest MTR is East Tsim Sha Tsui if I recall correctly, and is only a few stops down from Yau Ma Tei where In's Point is.

As you can see from the picture, they even had some retired sets available for sale. Now these UCS sets weren't just remnants waiting to be cleared, I was told that they had way more still in the store room!

Each of those boxes contained 2 sets of the 10221 Super Star Destroyer!

For those of you who are enquiring about the price, they cost HKD4598 each, which equated to around SGD770 while I was there in December. This was a pretty good price considering the set is long retired, and the price here at TRU was much cheaper than even In's Point!

Apart from the selection of Retired and Exclusive sets, they had a pretty good stock of the current line of sets. There were a number of Star Wars Advent Calendars which had long since gone extinct in Singapore, and their Christmas promotion was pretty good with the new Imperial Star Destroyer being only HKD1000 or SGD168!

For those of you major-league MOCers, this place is great inspiration for City-scapes and buildings.

Overall, I would highly recommend you visit TRU if you're in Hong Kong! Harbor City is a great mall for shopping and dining, with pretty much everything from Furniture to Electronics. For those of you LEGO collectors who travel with family, this is the ideal excuse!

On a side note, PageOne in Harbor City stocks Blocks Magazines for the avid fan, and Toys R Us even has free WIFI!!!
