LEGO At SDCC 2014

Hi All! Sorry for the delay in entries again. Today, I will be talking about all the exciting things LEGO released at the recent San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) 2014!

©San Diego Comic Convention

Personally, I have never been to any BrickFair or SDCC before (Partially because it’s half the world away), but I have always followed news of it, and all the awesome reveals of games and stuff.

So, a brief introduction of the SDCC. The SDCC is a convention held annually, in San Diego, California which is on the West Coast of the USA. The SDCC is popular for fans of video games and comics, and increasingly in the last decade, LEGO Fans. LEGO always has a booth at this highly popular convention, and every year, they have awesome previews and giveaways of exclusive sets.

75001 Republic Troopers VS Sith Troopers Review

Hi all, I’m back this week with my second ever LEGO Star Wars set review! Its been a really long week, and its been an equally long weekend! So Im back with more posts for you.

As with last week’s edition, I’m gonna be reviewing this set in 3 sections, based on its Minifigures, Playability and Investment Potential. So without further ado, here’s this week’s set! 75001 Republic Troopers VS. Sith Troopers!

This set was released last year in January 2013, it retails here in Singapore for SGD $27.90, and in the USA for USD$12.99, again this is another example of the huge price difference between LEGO in Singapore and in the USA, UK and EU.

This set contains only 63 pieces making it the smallest set excluding the LEGO Star Wars Planets Series, and contains 4 awesome Exclusive Minifigures, as well as a really cool Speeder!

As with all my small sets and Battle Packs, I wanted to get my hands on one as quickly and cheaply as possible, so as usual, I headed down to Toy Station at Serene Centre to buy it. You can check out what other cool LEGO Products they have here: http://www.toybrickstation.com/

75000 Clone Troopers VS. Droidekas Review!

Hi All! I’m back with my first Set Review post! If you have seen my earlier post, you would know that I will be writing a lot of these in the coming weeks/months, so expect to see more of these!

So, to start us off, the set I’m reviewing today is the LEGO Star Wars 75000 Clone Troopers VS Droidekas! I will be evaluating this set in 3 segments, based on the Minifigures, Playability and Investment Potential.

This set retails in Singapore for SGD $27.90 and in the USA for USD $12.99. That means this set literally costs double the price in Singapore than in the USA! The set comes with 2 Minifigures, and 2 more Brick-Built figures, and totals 124 Pieces. I bought this set at a 15% discount at Toy Station here in Singapore a year ago, slightly decreasing the hole in my student wallet.

UCS Batman Tumbler Revealed!

Hi Guys, I’m back with some very exciting news! This week, USA Today published an article regarding a new LEGO set, the Ultimate Collectors’ Series Batman Tumbler!

This looks to be an extremely cool set, and has a whopping 1,869 Pieces, and retails for $199.99 USD. It comes with 2 minifigures, being Christian Bale’s Batman, and Heath Ledger’s The Joker. This will be the first, and likely the only time these editions of Batman and The Joker will be available through a LEGO Set!

For all of you LEGO Batman or DC fans out there, this set is due to be released in September in the USA, EU and UK, so Singaporean fans are gonna have to wait!

As with all exclusives, LEGO VIP Members will get exclusive early access to this awesome set, starting August 18, a good 2 weeks before anyone else!

Personally, I would definitely get it if I could, but the USD$200 Price tag is gonna burn away my entire shirt, much less a pocket.

So that’s it for this update guys, do leave a comment below whether you will or will not be getting this really cool set!

Thanks to ©brickset.com for the news!

LEGO Set Reviews!

Hi All, I’m back! I really apologize for not being able to make posts frequently, I already have dozens of topics and content planned out, but not enough time to write them! I’m gonna try my best to bring ,my posting up to about 4 posts a week, but I’m not certain if I can do this consistently, so I’ll try my best!

As you all know, this blog is gonna feature content related to all things LEGO (Star Wars), and one of the features is LEGO Set Reviews.

So basically, I thought that doing reviews of LEGO sets I have, would be a good way for me to keep this blog active, and at the same time, informative, so starting next week, I will be posting reviews of all the LEGO Star Wars sets I have and working my way through each final product with a variety of criteria to judge the set, with a final score of 1 (Being “Avoid this set, burn them if you can”) to 10 (Being “Must buy at the next possible opportunity”).

Because I collect only LEGO Star Wars sets, I won’t be doing reviews for any other themes, but if I can, I may invite friends who own other LEGO Theme sets to do guest reviews on a special basis.

Also, I will be starting from the 2013 LEGO Star Wars sets, and working my way up to the newest wave of LEGO sets, thats around 30+ Set Reviews I have to complete, each a few hundred words, before the next wave!

In addition, as an added bonus, every month, I will make a review of an older LEGO Star Wars set that I own, that is not available on the market anymore as a sort of “Throwback” or opportunity for some of us older LEGO fans to gloat over having awesome sets that no one can buy anymore!

So, now for the judging criteria. I will be using a criteria for each segment of the review, going into detail regarding the Set itself.

LEGO Creator Mini Cooper Release!

The 10242 LEGO Creator Mini Cooper!

For all of you LEGO Creator fans out there, or even those who just want another vehicle to add to your collection, this is definitely a set for you. Personally, I would give this set a miss so I could divert my funds to more important stuff (ie. LEGO Star Wars), but this is definitely one of those sets many collectors wait years for.

As a LEGO VIP member, I was able to get early access to purchase the Mini Cooper, and get you guys the news of its availability ASAP. From now until July 31st, all LEGO VIP members will have special Early Access offers, relating to this set.

The Mini Cooper retails for $99.99 USD, meaning it will likely be priced well above $200 SGD here in Singapore. The set looks extremely cool and realistic, with a total piece count of 1077 pieces.

LEGO VIP members not only get early access 2 WEEKS BEFORE anyone else, but they also get a free Mini Cooper Mini Model (aka. Mini Mini Cooper) with their purchase!

Brick-vesting!

Hi all, I’m back! Sorry for the delay in entries, as you all know, I’m still a teen, as such, i’m only able to attend to this blog and create new material once or twice a week.

Today, i’ll be talking about LEGO Investment, general matters about selling or investing in Lego, as well as some general purchasing guidelines i follow when buying a set for my collection, or my investment.

LEGO is a very popular toy among adults and children alike. Some people go to great lengths and expense, and spend thousands of dollars to fund this expensive hobby.

LEGO Investing is basically purchasing LEGO sets and keeping them for a prolonged period of time, and then selling them to collectors for a higher price after the set retires and is no longer available at retail outlets.

These LEGO sets can be from any theme, although the popularity of a certain theme will definitely help to increase the value of the set in the aftermarket. Personally, I’ve just begun putting it into practice by buying a few small sets, but from what i’ve been able to learn from various sources online, a good set can see close to 30% increase in value 1-2 years after it has retired from production.

Because I’m a LEGO Star Wars fan, I only seek to invest in sets from this highly popular theme, though some of the things mentioned below can apply to all sets.

Local LEGO Shopping!

Hi guys, I’m back! This is my 2nd LEGO Blog Entry, and today, I’m gonna be talking about where and when I usually buy my LEGO Sets, whether its from overseas, locally or online. This entry is going to be much longer, so I apologize.

As we all know, LEGO is an expensive but fun hobby to have and sustain. Living in the beautiful country of Singapore doesn’t help matters much, as local prices of LEGO can be much much higher (30%-40%) than other countries such as the USA and the EU region.

For example, the set below, 75035 Kashyyyk Troopers retails in the USA for about $12.99 USD, whereas in Singapore, this small set with only 99 pieces already retails for $26.90 SGD at local departmental stores and toy shops!

For those of us who have had the opportunity to travel outside of Asia once or twice, you would know that such price discrepancies aren’t limited to certain sets, but actually occur across the entire range of LEGO sets. As such, we take advantage of these rare holidays overseas to purchase LEGO.

Or at least, as a teen that's what I often do anyway.

As a teen, I don’t really have much money to spend (Or any at all really), so I’m really pressed to get the most out of every dollar I have. This means saving up money from my allowance the entire year, for that one Departmental Store sale, or an overseas holiday to splurge and fulfil my LEGO cravings for the next 6 months or so.

And because of this, I find myself becoming much like my mother: Researching online and sifting through various advertisements and shop listings from various departmental stores island-wide, or any sales to find a good bargain before making any purchases.

After a few years of repeating this process, I have found a few good retailers who can consistently be relied upon, for good LEGO sales and deals. Below is a list of 4 local retailers, arranged in no particular order.

Welcome to My Blog!

Hi all, welcome to My Lego Blog! I’m a Teen Fan of Lego (TFOL) living in Singapore, and I started this blog because I wanted an outlet to share my passion for LEGO as a hobby, as well as all the problems us Singapore LEGO fans face living on this tiny island here in South-East Asia.

So, a few things about me.

I’ve been playing with LEGO since I was a kid, and my first ever lego set was 4888 - Underwater Exploration, which you can see from and image below. I really loved this set as it was very futuristic and everything, but unfortunately, I no longer have it anymore. (Read: I probably lost it somewhere)

Currently, I only collect LEGO Star Wars, and I’ve been collecting them for the past 2-3 years at the time of writing. As a kid, I really liked the Star Wars movies and cartoons, and I remember visiting local LEGO stores like Toyshunt, and spending time just looking at the amazing display of really expensive Star Wars Minifigures.

As stated above, I’m only a teen, so I have to rely on my own savings from my allowance to buy most of my LEGO, as such, this has led me to find many ways of saving money when buying these expensive brick-built toys.

Right now, I’m also looking into investing in LEGO, and maybe even parting out some sets to fund my hobby. In the future, you will probably see a few entries advertising any extra sets or Minifigures I may have for sale at lower-than-market prices.

Due to my schedule, I’ll be attending to this blog on a twice-weekly basis, and I’ll post an average of 1-2 articles a week relating to LEGO. These posts will feature elements such as REVIEWS of any LEGO Star Wars sets I have purchased or i currently own, any tips I have when buying LEGO or any news of upcoming Sales and Deals or any NEW SETS. I’ll try to be as brief as possible, and each entry will be about 500-600 words, though it definitely will be more when i’m doing a review or writing an article piece.

So, check back here often, and I hope to see you soon!

P.S. Please leave your comments below about my writing style, and what you would like to see in future blog posts!
